Day 3: Goal Setting - How to Clearly Define and Align Your Personal Goals
In the last post, we explored self-awareness -- knowing who you are.
Now it's time to ask: Where are you going? That's what Goal Setting is all about.
1. Why Are Goals Important?
"If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there."
Goals give you direction. They help focus your time, energy, and decisions.
2. The 3 Levels of Goals
a. Vision (Big Picture)
* Your life's long-term direction or purpose.
* Example: "i want to become someone who inspires others."
b. long-Term Goals (3-5 Years)
* The practical steps toward making your vision a reality.
* Example: "i want to become a published author in 3 years."
c. Short-Term Goals (3-6 Months)
* Actionable steps toward your long-term goal.
* Example: "I'll write one blog post every week" or "Complete a publishing course in 6 months."
3. How to Set SMART Goals
Make your goals SMART:
4. Align Goals with Your Core Values
You should set goals that match who you are- not just what sounds good.
Examples:
* If your value is freedom, consider goals that lead to independence (e.g., freelancing).
* If your value is contribution, set goals that let you serve others (e.g., social projects).
5. Build a Daily Action Plan
Your vision shows where to go. Your goals show how to get there. but your daily actions actually move you forward.
* Write one small action each day that connects to your goal.
* Track your progress in a notebook or app.
Example Workflow:
Vision: Become a motivational speaker
Long-Term Goal: Deliver 50+ speeches in 2 years
Short-Term Goal: Speck at one event per month + post weekly videos
Daily action: Practice public speaking for 30 minutes every morning
